Clout chasing has become a prevalent issue in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise, with cast members using the show for personal gain and notoriety.

The 90 Day Fiancé franchise has seen an influx of clout chasers over the last few seasons and spinoffs. Clout chasing is defined as “A person who attempts to gain political or social power and influence, especially through association or conflict with public figures.” In this case, 90 Day Fiancé is the famous entity, and cast members are applying for the show just to be on TV. Several current and former alums have very obviously tried to use their 90 Day Fiancé platform for their own gain and notoriety as their base intention. The show’s content quality has suffered due to these cast members diminishing the spirit of what the show is about.
Whether the clout-chasing cast members plug their own endeavors and push their 90 Day Fiancé accolade way too hard on social media, it’s not a good look. The point of 90 Day Fiancé is to provide viewers with authentic and genuine love stories they can connect to and enjoy watching. The premise of reality TV gets ruined or overshadowed when cast members are on the show for the wrong reasons. Instead of showcasing original, honest narratives, some self-serving 90 Day Fiancé cast members have clearly had ulterior motives, and it shows.
Yara Zaya
Yara Zaya debuted on 90 Day Fiancé season 8, and she and her husband, Jovi Dufren, have held on tight to their continued affiliation with the franchise. Whether they are good and entertaining choices to keep being featured in the franchise is suspect. Moreover, Yara has used her 90 Day Fiancé fame to launch a clothing line and makeup brand. Yara would most likely fade out of popularity without her continued casting in the network.
Shekinah Garner
Shekinah Garner is currently appearing on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 5. She promotes her LA lifestyle and event coordination, and based on her persona, it seems to all be for the clout. While she does seem to be in a relationship with Sarper Güven, her shallow demeanor and vapid connection are traits that clout chasers tend to have. Instead of adding value to the show with legitimate intentions, viewers are getting more of a glimpse into Shekinah’s style of living.
Julio Moya
Julio, from 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 5, made it known right away that he was a DJ. There were clips of him performing, and he’s taken several opportunities to mention that he is a DJ. Julio ended his relationship with Kirsten Schoemaker so coldly that it seemed he didn’t have much emotion invested in the relationship. This means he could have just taken her on the show for clout and to serve his own prerogatives. On social media, he touts his role as a 90 Day Fiancé cast member in a way that makes him seem like he’s trying too hard to be relevant.
Jasmine Pineda
Jasmine started out admittedly as Gino’s sugar baby, and it seems she intends to drag out her 90 Day Fiancé journey with her fiancé Gino Palazzolo. Since Jasmine doesn’t have a job, it’s clear that 90 Day Fiancé is the only thing she has going, and she’s using the show in a desperate way to cling to fame. Jasmine regularly uses her 90 Day Fiancé fandom to get followers to buy a Cameo from her, where she says memorable things from the show to gain notoriety on the platform.
Jibri Bell
Jibri Bell and his now-wife Miona Bell, from 90 Day Fiancé season 9, are some of the most obvious clout chasers to have made it onto the show. Not only were Jibri and Miona already married before coming onto the show, but they wasted no time pompously touting their appearance on the show via Instagram and all other social platforms. Jibri tries to flex so hard on Instagram and exert his 90 Day Fiancé influence into all aspects of his life. Jibri and Miona didn’t have much going for themselves before their 90 Day Fiancé fame, so they seem despairing in their resolve to cling to it.
Daniele Gates
Daniele Gates filed for bankruptcy in 2022 and has been leveraging her 90 Day Fiancé appearance to try and jumpstart other aspirations in her life. Since joining the network, Daniele has started a retreat, which was made possible by her 90 Day Fiancé popularity. She also has continued to stay in her toxic marriage with Yohan most likely to keep her time on the show going and to hang on to everything the show has provided her.
Kara did a lot of self-promotion throughout her time on 90 Day Fiancé season 9 and made it clear that she thought she was great. She was introduced as having no real direction in life, and 90 Day Fiancé seems to be her ticket to being relevant. Being on the show has afforded her a new career in real estate. She is also very active on Instagram, where she caters to her 90 Day Fiancé followers. Kara is lingering around the franchise on 90 Day Fiancé: Pillow Talk, so she is remaining relevant through her association.
Amanda Wilhelm
Amanda Wilhelm is currently on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days and appears to be doing it for recognition. Amanda is showcasing her impossible relationship with Razvan Ciocoi. She is trying to force their connection on the show when, in actuality, she doesn’t intend to stay with Razvan. Amanda could also be using the show to garner fans’ sympathy for her husband’s death in 2022. Amanda is chasing her 90 Day Fiancé clout, too, because she doesn’t have a job and has aspirations to be a fitness influencer.
90 Day Fiancé used to have more authentic and riveting cast members with appealing storylines and backgrounds. Many of these recent cast members have been more concerned with how they would use their 90 Day Fiancé affiliation for personal gain. For these cast members named, it’s become less about showing the world the authenticity of their relationship and entertaining viewers with their love story and more about gaining an influence, reputation, or popularity. While there still are a lot of legitimate and compelling cast members and narratives, it seems clout chasers have plagued the recent 90 Day Fiancé seasons.
